Kawhi Leonard has officially arrived in Toronto.
The new Raptors superstar didn’t meet with the media Friday, but he did appear in this picture with GM Bobby Webster and team president Masai Ujiri on the team’s practice court. Fans who were worried that Leonard wouldn’t even show his face in Toronto can rest easy for now.
Leonard is due to be a free agent next summer and it’s widely assumed his stop with the Raptors will only last one season. Ujiri’s mission now is to try to convince him to stay.
“He didn’t express a lack of interest about playing in Canada to me,” Ujiri said at a solo press conference earlier in the day. “I haven’t gotten that sense from Kawhi Leonard or his people and I’m going to give him that chance when we meet face to face.”
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, as the old saying goes. The Raptors and Leonard have taken that first step, and now we wait until the season starts to see where that journey will take them.
